Socio Economic Development of Dadra and Nagar Haveli Since Its Liberation (1985-86)

Abstract

From Preface: Though planned development under Five Year Plan Programme was started late in this Union Territory i.e. from 4th Five Year Plan 1969—70 only, the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli which is predominantly inhabited by tribals have made tremendous progress in socio—economic fields after its liberation on 2nd August, 1954 from the Portuguese yoke. Keeping in view the keen interest of the users for statistical data in respect of development made by this Union Territory in different socio economic fields and inter State comparability, this publication entitled ’’Socio-economic Development of Dadra and Nagar Haveli since Liberation" has ,been brought out by the Statistical wing of the Administration. Though such data have been furnished to the various Departments of Ministry of Government of India and other organisations for their periodical statistical publications, this publication provides in a nutshell the broad contours of important developments made upto 1985, in comparison to those obtaining at the time of liberation of this Territory, This is the first issue of the brochure and will be published as a continuous series annually on the liberation day of this Union Territory i.e. on 2nd August.
