dc.description.abstractFrom Introduction: The backward classes of Gujarat comprise of Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes, Nomadic Tribes and Denotified Tribes. According to 1971 census the population of Scheduled Castes is 18.25 lakhs against population of 266.97 lakhs which forms 6.84% of the total population of the State. The total population of Scheduled castes of India is about 825 lakhs. Thus Gujaratis scheduled castes population constitutes 2.20% of the total Scheduled caste population of the country.en_US
