Abstract: From Preface: This study on the Role of the Private Sector in Education in Karnataka is one of nine sub-sector studies commissioned by the Department of Education, Government of Karnataka to provide inputs for the preparation of a perspective plan for the future course of education in the state. In this study the current role of the Private Sector at different levels in the educational scenario of Karnataka is examined and the potential of private enterprise to meet part of the expanding educational needs of the state is also highlighted. The study was carried out in 2000 - 2001 over a period of 18-20 weeks that included intensive field studies involving a small purposive sample of schools in two districts U Karnataka.
