Abstract

From Foreword: Bihar Education Project has been envisaged as an endeavour to initiate social change in the existing socio-cultural-economic milieu of Bihar through the process of primary education. Such endeavours require clarity of vision, goals and objectives on the one hand and a high degree of commitment, dedication and professionalism on the other. So, BEP has been conceived as an innovative project with a goal"-------------- to bring about a driving force in the state through educational reconstruction. A change in the educational situation will then bring improvement in all spheres, and the atmosphere of despair, cynicism, and violence will give way to a firm determination to deal with the environmental, social, cultural and gender issues " ( chapter 2, Basic document of Bihar Education Project).
