Abstract

From Preface: "Education in India" is brought out annually by the Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development. The publication contains All India and statewise statistics on school education. The publication is brought out in three volumes - Volume I (S) containing numerical data on school education, Volume II (S) financial data on school education. Volume III Examination results of matriculation and higher levels. The present publication Vol.I(S) relates to the year 1989-90. The volumes corresponding to 1(C) and 11(C) in respect of college education are expected to be brought out by University Grants Commission. This publication is divided into two parts. Part-I contains an abstract and a general survey of the developments in the field of education at the Centre and in States during the year 1989-90. Part-II comprises state-wise statistical tables based on the information collected from the States and Union Territories through ES-I(S) forms.
