Abstract: From Introduction: Meghalaya has an area of approximately 22,500 Sq. Kms with a population I3.36 lakhs according to 1981 census, the growth rate being 32.04 per cent during the decade 1971-81. The density population in the State increased to 60 persons per Sq. Km. in 1981 from 45 persons in 1971. Nearly 81.9 per cent of the population live in rural areas.
