Abstract: The following objectives are kept in mind while taking up an in-depth assessment / inquiry: 1. By this exercise, it is expected that variations in the reported figures of enrollment and dropout are understood and is expected that such variations are acknowledged. 2. To understand the variations in reported data on retention and dropout vis-à-vis the average and the actual child attendance on the day of visit. 3. To note and understand the reasons for variations among the reported figures of enrollment, retention attendance and dropout. 4. Based on the inferences drawn for variations, to understand and approximate the varying patterns by validation. 5. The study understands whether the enrollment is the basis for some of the incentive programs like mid-day meals and free supply of text books. 6. To take note of net increase in enrollment through special drives, like Chinnara Angala, Special and Voluntary admission drives that enable and motivate the out of school children for mainstream learning.
