| Abstract: | Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) was launched on 16th November 2000 across the Country as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme with the primary objective of universalization of elementary education by community ownership of the school system. The programme provides for community owned quality education in a Mission mode. The Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) scheme, launched in August 2004, was merged with the SSA programme as a separate component of the programme in April 2007. |
