From Introductory Note: The Grant-in-aid system, was first introduced in 1859 and one of its basic objects which still holds good, was to promote voluntary effort and reliance on local resources in the field of education apart from such contributions as may be available from the funds of the State. As a matter of fact the Code laid down the cardinal principle that it is an important element in the Grant-in-aid system that part of the expenses of an aided institution should be provided by the management from the resources of its own.en_US
