Abstract: This study presents an analysis of trends in respect of Indian students and Trainees who have gone abroad for higher studies during 1 9 9 6 -9 7 . Basic data for the study was collected from the Reserve Bank of India, we are grateful to the Reserve Bank of India for providing the data for this study. The purpose of bringing out this publication is to maintain the statistical records of Indian students/Trainees going abroad under various schemes for higher studies and to acquire latest know-how in various fields like Agriculture, Technology, science, Medicine, Education, etc. Efforts have been made to compare the outflow of Indian students in foreign countries with inflow of students from foreign countries in Indian Universities in 1995 - 96. This publication gives statistics of out flow of Indian students Trainees state-wise, duration-wise, sex-wise, subject-wise, country-wise etc. In addition, it also gives information about sources of financial assistance, country-wise, agency-wise etc.
