A Synthesis Paper
Issue Date: 2000

Abstract: A properly planned and well-developed statistical base is necessary for formulation of policies, schemes and programmes and their effective implementation in Education Sector, However, the present system of Educational Statistics is deficient in respect of (i) comprehensiveness, (ii) quality and reliability, (iii) timeliness and coordination. Considering the fact that the combined investment of public and private sectors on education during the Ninth Five-Year Plan will be of the order of Rs. 80,00Q crore, and the sharp focus of the Prime Minister’s Special Action Plan on Removal of Illiteracy, the need was felt for prompt remedial action to remove these deficiencies.
