Review of Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Teacher Education: Synthesis Report. 2008

Abstract

Synthesis report based on cross-analysis of the review of District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs), District Resource Centres (DRCs), Colleges of Teacher Education (CTEs), Institutes of Advanced Studies in Education (lASEs) and State Councils of Educational Research and Training (SCERTs) in 29 States/ UTs was circulated among the States/UTs and other officers simultaneously along with the individual State/UT reports on limited basis. These teacher education institutions are being financially supported by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Strengthening and Re-organization of Teacher Education launched in 1987. The responsibility of this review was entrusted to the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) by the MHRD. The NCTE carried out this review in the Sates/ UTs through the members of Teacher Education Resource Group (TERG) constituted by the MHRD. In addition to TERG members, experts from teacher education field were also associated with the review.
