The flagship scheme of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan was initiated during 2000-01 for improving the quality of elementary education and also to fulfill the constitutional commitment of Universalisation of Elementary Education. Teacher Training was one of the important components of SSA for achieving the goal of UEE. The provision for 20 days in-service training was made for all the elementary school teachers every year under this scheme for their professional growth and development. Since this programme was being implemented in the country for over a decade, it became necessary to evaluate the scheme for assessing its impact in classroom transaction and on students. This compendium is based on the case studies of 27 training centres in the sampled states in order to supplement quantitative perspective with qualitative input on critical issuesen_US
