dc.description.abstract | Education has generally been regarded as a social service. Its role as a direct investment for economic development is being appreciated only of late, particularly after the Second World War. The spectacular recovery of the war-torn economy of Europe and 'Japan emphasised the contribution of human element in the economic development. The fast reconstruction was based largely on the skill-capital in these nations which is indestructable over a short period. The attention of the thinkers was also gradually drawn to the process of change in the developing countries with greater emphasis being laid on extension methods. In the process of change, communication of ideas assumes a vital role. Not only the potential of communication through the written symbol can be exploited with the spread of education but it also came to be appreciated that even for effective oral communication the symbols have to be understood, equally and’ in the same spirit^ on both the sides. Extension education through different media, therefore, becomes an important element in the strategy of economic development. | en_US |
