Abstract: The number of institutions conducting first degree or equivalent courses in engineering and technology in 1964 (academic year 1964-65) is 131 with a total admission capacity of 23,757 students. The actual admissions, however, are 22,214. The reason for the actual admissions being less that the sanctioned admission capacity is that some of the new institutions that started recently were still in the process of establishment and had to limit admissions to available facilities.
