Abstract: The Phase II of Andhra Pradesh Primary Education Project (APPEP) was commenced in the state in June ’89 with the financial assistance of the Overseas Development Administration (O.D.A.) of United Kingdom (U.K.), with the objectives of i) bringing about qualitative improvement in Primary Education by implementing activitybased approach to learning in all the Primary Schools in the State in a phased manner and ii) designing and constructing primary school classrooms and add-onfacilities to Teachers’ Centres to provide better educational environment, after the successful implementation of the project in Phase I and Bridging Programme from January ’85 to May ’89. The implementation of the Human Resource Development (HRD) programme of the project commenced in all primary schools/sections of 9 districts during 1989-90, 8 districts during 1990-91 and the remaining 6 districts during 1991-92 in a phased manner. Every district is covered in a period of five years.
