dc.description.abstractA major statutory function of NCTE which is entrusted with the task of planned and coordinated development of teacher education is to lay down norms and standards for different teacher education courses. Accordingly, NCTE iaid down such norms first in 19.95, the year in which NCTE was established as a statutory body. These norms were subjected to review in 1998 and 2001. Presently, teacher education programmes are governed by the 2001 norms.en_US
