Abstract

The functions of the Department of Education are to evolve educational policy in all its aspects and to coordinate and determine standard in higher education including research. This Department is also responsible to expand and develop technical education, to improve quality of textbooks, to administer scholarships and other schemes, to foster and encourage studies and research in Sanskrit and other classical languages, to develop activities in the field of non formal education, to promote adult education and to co-ordinate with the programmes of assistance and other activities of UNESCO.
