dc.description.abstractThere are 23 metropolitan urban agglomerations/cities with 1 million and above population. 70.66 million, roughly one-third of the total population lives in these 23 cities. There are four mega cities with 5 million and above population. These are: Greater Bombay, Calcutta, Delhi and Chennai. 17.13 per cent of total urban population lives in these four cities. 52.68 per cent of the total population of the 23 metropolitan cities lives in these four mega cities.en_US
