Abstract: | T he National Education Policy, 2020 (NEP-2020) stresses the need for imparting holistic and multidisciplinary education (HME) to all learners to help them towards all-round development, in all capacities, such as social, physical, emotional, moral, intellectual, and aesthetic, in an integrated manner. The policy emphasizes that the course curriculum should be multidisciplinary in nature with the flexibility for the learners to opt for a creative combination of disciplines, according to their choice with unique course options besides specializing in a particular chosen discipline. The policy states that the duration and credits of degree programmes should be adjusted accordingly so that the learner gets the opportunity for a widespectrum range to choose from besides the major focus on the chosen specialization. All higher education institutions (HEIs) providing UG, PG, and doctoral programmes ranging from traditional disciplines of the humanities, social sciences, and pure sciences to various professional, technical, and vocational disciplines, have to impart HME to the students. NEP-2020 envisions that HME is the need of the hour, to produce well-rounded individuals, rooted in Indian culture, with capabilities to keep pace in an integrated manner, with the demands of the 21st century |
