Special Component Plan for Scheduled Castes 1982-83

Abstract

Uttar Pradesh has got the highest number of Scheduled Caste persons numerically and they account for about 25 per cent of the total Scheduled Caste population in India. These teeming millions have been living a life of squalor and poverty for centuries, and a majority of them at a level much below the poverty line. The objective before us, as set by the Prime Minister of India, is that 50 per cent of the Scheduled Caste families should be brought above the poverty line in the Sixth Five-Year Plan.
