Abstract: Tribal Sub-Plan concept was based on integrated area development as a strategy to eliminate the developmental lag in tribal areas. During the Seventh Plan 1985-90, one of the aim was to cover the entire tribal population, whether living in ‘area or tribal concentration' or outside. This was planned to achieve through the implementation of two new programmes in full measure, (i) the programme for the primitive tribes; and (ii) the programmes for the dispersed groups. These two new programmes plus the Tribal Sub-Plan between themselves cover the entire tribal population in the State.
