Abstract: The district of Murshidabad is the northern-most district of'the Presidency division and lies at its northeastern boundary. The district of Murshidabad has been so named after the historic city of Murshidabad on the left bank of the Bhagirathi, which was the last of the Muhammedan capitals in Bengal and the birth place of British empire in India. The town previously was known as Muksudabad.
