The Parliamentary Standing Committee has observed that, inspite of the best efforts from the University Grants Commission, adequate number of applications have not been received for the Post- Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child even though it had been instituted from the PG academic year 2005-06 (for eg. for the academic year 2009-10from the State of Kerala there were only 287 awardees — inclusive o f 79 numbers from University of Kerala). It is therefore suggested that the scheme of PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child needs more publicity to educate the masses, particularly in the rural and remote areas about the benefits of the scheme so that they get motivated to send their girl child for higher education.en_US
