Abstract: The district of 24-Parganas forms the south-western part of the Presidency division of West Bengal and lies between 88°2' and 89°6' east longitude. It is bounded on the north by the district of Nadia on the south by the Bay of Bengal and on the West by the river Hooghly, which proceeding from north to south separates it from the district of Hooghly, Howrah and Midnapore. The area of the district is 4133 sq. kms. The density of population is 759-7 per sq. km. according to 19i81 Census.
